On 21 January 2014 a meeting was held at the Lilongwe office of the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Welfare (MoGCSW) between Ministry officials and Globe Internet Limited Malawi to put pen to paper on the contract for provision of internet services to the districts served by the Social Cash Transfer Program. Signing for the MoGCSW was Principal Secretary, Dr. Mary Shawa while Mr. Ranjan Perera, Managing Director Globe Internet Limited Malawi did the honors on behalf of the service provider.

The deal will result in regular internet service to the current 7 SCTP districts, as well as the MoGCSW’s central office in Lilongwe, and is a critical aid to the efficient functioning and management of the Program’s central MIS. In addition, the lack of reliable internet in the districts has compounded delays already faced by the Program during the targeting process. It is also expected that reliable internet service will now ease the many communication issues faced by the Program’s personnel in the past. This event represents the second big contract signing in the last three (3) months by the MoGCSW as the SCTP concludes many of its larger procurements started in 2013.

Other witnesses on hand at the signing ceremony were MoGCSW Acting Director of Social Support Services, Dr. Esmie Kainja, MoGCSW Procurement Officer, Mr. Deus Mndoka, and Ayala Consulting Resident Consultant Lilongwe, Chantal Elmont.
